Individuals
Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy is first about discovering; it's about who you are and about your deepest attitudes. From discovery comes knowledge which in turn provides wisdom for change.
Helping you, be you
A simple statement, Helping you, be you - and actually also quite profound at its deepest level of meaning. Sheree's understanding of internal self dynamics, and external dynamics with others, would suggest that, at the end of the day, that is exactly what we are all trying to be: ourselves.
Whether it be at work, at home, or in any of our connections with others and our closest relationships, getting to be ourselves isn't necessarily easy because being ourselves isn't always a useful fit in the situations we can sometimes find ourselves in.
This can bring up some real difficulties and challenges and, whilst we cant change others, we can learn more about ourselves so that we can respond differently if that is our choice.
As Moshe Feldenkrais said, we need first to understand what we are doing before we can do what we want. Sheree and Somatic Rehabilitation work to facilitate this process of self study so that you can work towards being more of who you are, improve your connections with others and participate more effectively at work and in life.
Once old habits are no longer the driving force of our lives, identifying core beliefs and limiting patterns of behavior allows change and helps open new doors.
Sheree uses Hakomi as it tends to be much faster and more effective than talk therapy. Because it gets to this unconscious material more quickly – it can sometimes take only a few sessions instead of months or years - people get results much faster.
How we help you be you
Psychotherapy works on the basis that many of the problems we have in our lives are caused by unconscious patterns that are essentially running us without our knowledge. Sheree and Somatic Rehabilitation use mindfulness to bring a closer focus to what we are doing now: a process of self-study unfolds that can allow us to observe ourselves from a different perspective.
Later we might wish to use this information to learn about and to understand how others are affected/impacted by us. Either way, information becomes available to us about ourselves that we didnt have before, or have simply lost contact with. This process can lead to change and self-acceptance.
Treating the whole person
Hakomi is a form of psychotherapy that works to integrate mind and body and can be described as a gentle unfolding of the soul. It tends to be much faster and more effective than talk therapy because it gets to this unconscious material more quickly – it can sometimes take only a few sessions instead of months or years. This means people get results much faster.
A long and science backed history
Hakomi is a depth psychology and while some of the concepts stem from Buddhism and Taoism, especially the concepts of gentleness, compassion, mindfulness and going with the grain, Hakomi is a science-based modality with precise skills and techniques. Some have evolved out of aspects of Gestalt therapy, NLP, Feldenkrais, Bioenergetics, Structural Bodywork and Eriksonian Hypnosis.
In Hakomi we involve the body in the psychotherapeutic process because one of the most important journeys we will ever take is the one where we link heart and mind.
